Job Description | We are soliciting applications for one position, a Project Research Technician(II), Project Research Technician(III) or Postdoctoral Researcher, that would contribute to a research project with the title "Observational and modeling assessments of aerosol impact on climate change in East Asia" (Co-Investigator, Yugo Kanaya). This project is selected under Joint Collaborations under the Trilateral (Japan-US-Republic of Korea) Memorandum of Cooperation Regarding the Trilateral Framework on Cooperation in Science and Innovation. [Research Description] (Immediately upon employment) In this project, JAMSTEC, in collaboration with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), USA, and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Korea, aims to improve understanding of the recent (decadal scale) rapid atmospheric aerosol decline and changes in short-lived climate forcing factors (SLCFs) and their climate impacts in East Asia. The project seeks to broaden the scope of observations conducted by JAMSTEC, including those on Fukue island in western Japan and abroad ships, and by KIST at Jeju Island and other sites. It aims to integrate these observations with LLNL's Earth System Model E3SM and its Regionally Refined Mesh (RRM). The overarching objective is to enhance our understanding of aerosol and SLCF changes, and to deepen our insights into cloud-precipitation-radiation interactions. In pursuit of this understanding, we value the contributions of satellite observations and numerical analysis using diverse approaches. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher or a research technician to contribute to this endeavor engaging in research and development and fostering international collaboration related to this task. 1. Observational studies on the dynamics of aerosol microphysics, chemical composition, sources, optical properties, and related trace gases etc. 2. Research on combined analysis of the aerosol/gas data with observations from Korea on aerosols/clouds and/or E3SM model simulations in the USA 3. Work on the promotion of international collaboration and cooperation of the three countries (scientific meetings and reports etc.) (The scope of possible changes) The duties designated by JAMSTEC [Relevant Research Fields] Atmospheric Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geochemical Cycles, Meteorology, Climate Science, Remote Sensing, Civil Engineering, Geophysics and other related fields |
