| Job Description | We are recruiting a Researcher or Researcher (II) to engage in the following research. [Research Description] (Immediately upon employment) The Research and Development Center for Geodetic and Geophysical Monitoring (GGM) conducts research and development on observation technologies and the utilization of related data to better understand subduction zones and submarine volcanoes. In particular, the GGM promotes research and development related to continuous, real-time seafloor crustal deformation monitoring to capture a wide range of deformation phenomena, including slow-slip events (SSEs), within the anticipated source regions of megathrust earthquakes. In this recruitment, we are seeking a Researcher or Researcher (II) who will engage in advanced technology development and observational research, including seafloor crustal deformation monitoring in the Nankai Trough region, by utilizing JAMSTEC facilities, such as research vessels and underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) etc., as well as seafloor observatory networks operated by other collaborating institutions. The successful candidate is expected to actively collaborate with researchers, engineers and experts at the Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics (IMG), other institutes within JAMSTEC, and joint research institutions in Japan and abroad to advance research and development. | Working Conditions & Contract Period | (1) Number of positions: 1 position for a Researcher or Researcher (II) (2) Type of contract: Tenure-track fixed-term employee (3) Working Hours: Discretionary Labor System for Specialized Work *The determination of working hours allocation, including start and end times, as well as the method of carrying out research and development activities (including teleworking), is left to the discretion of the employee. (4) Contract Period: Period of employment is from April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2032 *Effective date of employment is negotiable. *One contract period is a maximum of five fiscal years. The contract period will not be renewed. *On reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change. *After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract may be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 63, or the age of 65 if the employee is rehired after their retirement).
