TOPICS

Supercomputer Engineering and Administration Group

The Computer System Operation and Maintenance Group operates and maintains JAMSTEC's supercomputer systems, including the Earth Simulator, while providing technical support to their users. Furthermore, the group invites research proposals that utilize these supercomputers and engages in technological research and development aimed at expanding their applications.

Data and information Technology Development Group

We develop software platforms to provide and disseminate various research data from both within and outside JAMSTEC. We are also committed to maintaining the system environment to ensure the stable and efficient operation of these data platforms.

Earth Simulator

The Earth Simulator (ES4) is a multi-architecture supercomputer that combines AMD CPUs with NEC Vector Engines and NVIDIA A100 GPUs. It is widely utilized not only by JAMSTEC staff but also by external researchers and users.

Industrial Application of Supercomputers

To contribute to industrial activities and promote innovation—beyond just advancing Japan's marine-earth science and related research fields—JAMSTEC provides a flexible framework that allows the Earth Simulator to be widely utilized for research, development, design, manufacturing, and education.

Development of Data Provision and Integration Platforms

We develop and operate centralized public database systems to effectively utilize the vast amounts of research data acquired, generated, and collected by JAMSTEC. We also promote the development of system environments to ensure the stable and efficient operation of these data platforms.

AI Development for Deep-Sea Video and Image Data

We are working on developments that apply AI technology to the vast amounts of video and image data captured during JAMSTEC's deep-sea research. This initiative aims to efficiently generate new scientific insights and information.
