Dr. Fumio Inagaki receives the Philipp Franz von Siebold Award in Germany

Dr. Fumio Inagaki, Director of Ocean Basalt CCS Basic Research Project Team, General Project Team for SIP, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and Investigator of Drilling Projects Support Office, Institute for Marine-Earth Exploration and Engineering (MarE3), JAMSTEC, has been awarded the Philipp Franz von Siebold Award in Germany.

The Philipp Franz von Siebold Award, established in 1978 by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, is the most prestigious prize for recognizing renowned Japanese researchers in all disciplines and is awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. It is awarded to a Japanese researcher who has made significant contributions to cultural and social understanding between Japan and Germany and has made outstanding academic achievements. The Siebold Award in this year recognizes not only Dr. Inagaki’s outstanding achievements in academic research, but also his contributions to bilateral academic exchanges through collaborative research projects between Japan and Germany. The award ceremony will be held on June 29 at Bellevue Palace in Berlin in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and presented by the President Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany.
