Sample Request and Procedures of Use

To access core samples obtained by JAMSTEC cruises and Cooperative Research Cruises stored at KOCHI/JAMSTEC (KCC), you need to submit a sample request to the Core Sample Management Office. Based on the description in the request, the Core Sample Management Office will determine whether the purpose, method, and requested amount of use are appropriate, and may provide samples to the requester. Please refer to "Terms and Conditioins for Use of Core Samples" for details of JAMSTEC core sample handling.

Requesting core samples

Please download the sample request form from the following list. Fill up and submit the request form via E-mail to the curator, with a sample list and related documents, if necessary. By submittiing a sample request, the requester will be regarded as having approved the "Consent Agreement for Sample Use" in the request form, thus please read and check carefully the corresponding section.

The curator may communicate with requesters to confirm/adjust request information, to arrange schedules for subsampling/shipping, and to deal with procedures such as for export control. Please describe your purpose, usage, and requesting sample volumes in detail and attach related documents if any, to justify your project. Note that in some cases, especially when a request includes exporting of samples to outside Japan, or when additional conditions of use are specifically arranged for the samples, it may take considerable time to process the request.

Discrete sampling

Please consult the description in "Typical Volumes for Discrete Samples" to complete the form/table for "Sample Information". Please be noted that requesters are generally liable for sampling operation, shipping costs and consumable supplies.

Use of core samples

If it is feasibly applicable, the curator may provide a specific period of use until which the user must return samples. If you wish to extend the period of use, you must contact the curator in advance to be approved.

Obligations for report and citation

Users of core samples will submit publishable analytical data to Data Management Office. In publications, users should cite cruise reports or cruise summaries to acknowledge JAMSTEC for providing data and samples. Please send the "Notification of Publication of Results" to submit-rv-cruise
