Open House of The R/V "MIRAI" and the MIO

The Mutsu Institute for Oceanography (MIO; Dr. Shuichi Watanabe, Director) of the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC; Mr. Yasuhiro Kato, President) will open its research facilities and the Oceanographic Research Vessel “MIRAI” as described below, to increase understanding of local people on our research activities.
 Panel exhibition and special onboard tour will be held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the R/V “MIRAI”.

 

Theme:

Learn! Enjoy! About The Ocean People can experience mystery and lure of the ocean through the on-board tour and experiment classes.

July 22 (Sun.), 2007 10:00~16:00 (15:30 End of registration)

Venue:

The Mutsu Institute for Oceanography, JAMSTEC 690, Kitasekine, Sekine, Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture (20 minutes by car from Shimokita Station of JR Oominato Line) Complimentary shuttle service is available in Mutsu City

(1) Panel display of 10-year history of the R/V "MIRAI"
(2) Open house of the R/V "MIRAI" (Special on-board tour is available)
(3) Public open of research studies and facilities
(4) Experiment class titled "CO2~It's a mysterious world"
(5) Seminar titled "Dolphin with an artificial tail fin", telecasting live from Okinawa (Cooperation: Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium)
(6) Display of TRITON Buoy and Argo Float
(7) Ropework lesson by crews of the R/V "MIRAI"
(8) Display of prize winning arts of "Draw Your Dreams of the Ocean on a Post Card Contest"
(9) Others (Taking memorial pictures, Collecting Stamps, etc.)
