The Dee-sea Drilling Vessel Chikyu
Goes into Dock for Drydocking Survey and Maintenance

The Deep-sea Drilling Vessel Chikyu belongs to the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC; Mr. Yasuhiro Kato, President), which has just completed this fiscal year’s mission planned for “Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment” or “NanTroSEIZE”, will be in Sasebo port, Nagasaki Prefecture on February 23, 2008 for its inspection, maintenance and repair work.

The Chikyu is scheduled to be in the dock of the Sasebo Shipyard, Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture from February 23 to mid April. Drydocking survey for the ship and repair/ maintenance work for onboard system/equipment and devices will be carried out during this period.
