Philosophy and Purpose of Recruitment As part of JAMSTEC's ongoing efforts, to promote diversity and invigorate research activities, we have established a program called the "JAMSTEC Restart Support Recruitment". This program aims to provide opportunities for outstanding researchers, research technicians, and engineers who have experienced interruptions in their professional activities due to life events such as childbirth or child rearing. Researcher (Science) is expected primarily to perform theoretical work, observations, and experiments related to research and development, through fundamental, original, or advanced research to conduct fundamental, originative, or advanced research based on theories, observations, and experiments.

Researcher (Technology):
Researcher (Technology) is expected to conduct fundamental, originative, or advanced technology development and related research.

Researcher:
Researcher is expected to further accumulate and develop its own expertise, and to continuously create and publish the results of their main papers and technology development as a dedicated researcher.

Engineer:
Engineering job is expected to improve and develop fundamental and comprehensive technologies related to the business operations of JAMSTEC, as well as maintain, update, plan, and promote such advanced technologies.

Engineer, Engineer (II):
Engineer and Engineer (II) is expected to understand the goals and objectives of their work, to perform duties as an expert in technology-related work, and to serve as a core member of the assigned department.

Requirements Researcher: Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in a closely related field of research or technology development.

Research Technician / Engineer: Applicants must have completed master degree in a closely related field of research or technology development, or possess equivalent development skills.

[Qualifications and experience etc.]
Applicants who have taken a leave of absence, suspension, or resignation from research and development activity for at least three months due to childbirth or childcare, and who fall under any of the following categories:
(1) Applicants who are raising children who have not yet graduated from elementary school (until March 31 of the year they turn 12) as of April 1, 2023
(2) Applicants who are raising children with illnesses or disabilities
(3) Applicants who have been employed or previously employed as a Restart Postdoctoral Fellowship by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) .

Working Conditions & Contract Period ・Effective date of employment is negotiable.
・In accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws, on reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
・After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract may be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 60, or the age of 65 if the employee is rehired after their retirement). *One contract period is a maximum of five fiscal years. The contract period will not be renewed.

Salary Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
*Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaw, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the candidate.
*Bonus and retirement allowance are included in the annual salary.

*Since Engineer is not under the discretionary labor system, overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
Terms of Employment (1) Upon appointment, the successful candidate will receive relocation allowances in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws.
(2) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(3) Employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute.
(4) JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(5) Housing lease service will be available in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws.
(6) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.
