R/V MIRAI
"typhoon has passed away"
Rainy in the morning. Later, fine.
Strong swell remains whole day.
Observations:
We have started the Doppler radar observation. However, typhoon has already passed away east, and there is no significant echos around the ship. Figure 1 shows the time series of the significant wave height. It had almost 6m or higher whole day. As shown in photo-1, swell was high and no work at deck was performed. The anntenna shown in the right-lower corner is the wind profiler, that will be operated by Kyoto University group. At present as of 22:00 LST, surface wind speed decreases to 15m/sec.
Remarks:
Although I mentioned yesterday that we would face to the typhoon,
we missed it. Only the swell remains.
So far nobody except one feels sea sick. Fortunately, it seems that we
are all strong against the rough sea conditions.
MIRAI is now (2200 LST, Oct. 6) at 31N, 135E and is crusing for
Singapore with the speed of 12 kt.
