 Objectives :

  1. To check the data status and their management
  2. To present scientific results from the YMC and PISTON related field campaigns and all aspects of research related to the Maritime Continent as discussed in the YMC science plan and the PISTON science plan
  3. To revive the capacity building from research to operation
  4. To discuss the strategy on the next phase of YMC (e.g. collaborative research, research-operation interaction, inter-comparison of numerical models, use of the YMC framework for future MC studies)

  • Scientific reviews and analysis on multi-scale convection in MC-SCS
       Review the convectively coupled waves and intraseasonal variabilities in the tropics, with a hands-on tutorial on the space-time filtering techniques for identifying the activity of various wave modes from the real-time forecast data. (by Profs. C.-H. Sui and M.-M. Lu)

  • Analysis of high-resolution satellite observations and model output over MC-SCS
       A hands-on tutorial on accessing and processing the satellite observations of precipitation (GPM) and cloud (Himawari-8), and the analysis with the companion of the ERA-5 reanalysis focusing on heavy precipitation systems (by Profs. W.-T. Chen and C.-M. Wu)

Day-2 (June 1, 2020 at CWB)


  • Data quality and basic analysis of in-situ observations
       Introducing the quality control and data processing of upper-air sounding and ground meteorological instruments. (by. Profs. P.-H. Lin and C.-H. Liu)

  • Data processing and analysis of ground-based radar observations
       Introducing the tools for processing and visualizing the ground-based radar retrievals (by Dr. P.-L. Chang and colleagues at CWB)
