LTBMS(Long Term Borehole Monitoring System)

Long Term Borehole Monitoring System (LTBMS) is an assembly of sensors permanently installed in boreholes drilled by Chikyu that collect a range of measurements for long periods of time. LTBMS Sensors are selected according to scientific needs, and includes such instruments as geophones, accelerometers, thermistors, tilt meters, broadband seismometers, and pressure loggers.

Borehole monitoring systems can be classed into two types: permanent systems, which can monitor data in real-time by connection to submarine power and data transmission cables; and temporary systems, which can be replaced or recovered to the surface after a period of time.
