In the Flagship 2020 project, the co-design means we will improve the computer hardware, the system software and applications to resolve their bottlenecks and achieve best performance for post-K supercomputer.
We aim the early realization of research results and their maximization on the post-K supercomputer, with the co-design.
The co-design is driven by both RIKEN as the supercomputer development organization and institutions that lead the priority issues as application development organization.
In the priority issue 4, the target software in the co-design is NICAM-LETKF.
The NICAM-LETKF is consists of the Nonhydrostatic Icosahedral Atmospheric Model (NICAM) and the Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter (LETKF).
The NICAM-LETKF on the post-K supercomputer provides global atmospheric data assimilation results based on many ensemble members on high resolution meshes.
The results are expected to become high-value basic products.
