Distribution of the JCOPE-FGO reanalysis data

By assimilating available observation data into the JCOPE-FGO ocean nowcast/forecast system covering the global ocean excluding arctic regions, Application Laboratory has created the JCOPE-FGO reanalysis data with horizontal high resolution of 1/10 deg. to describe the oceanic variability associated with the major ocean curents and mesoscale eddies from January 1993 to present (updated once in a few months) (Kido et al. 2022). The JCOPE-FGO reanalysis data are available from the authors by request.

The JCOPE-FGO reanalysis assimilates satellite alitimetry, JMA analysis sea surface temperature (MGDSST), in-situ temperature/salinity data into the model by using the three dimensional variational method. The river discharge data from JRA-55 do are incorporated in the model.

The JCOPE-FGO reanalysis data are produced with a support from Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas Mid-latitude Ocean-Atmosphere interaction hotspots under the changing climate.

Locations of the river mouths incorporated in JCOPE-FGO. Scales of the circles indicate the mean discharge volume transport values.

How to download the JCOPE-FGO reanalysis data

Application Laboratory freely distributes the JCOPE-FGO reanalysis data to any interested users. If you accept following conditions of data use, please fill out the following Google form to specify your order:
Application form (Google form)
Horizontal range: 0-360E, 75S-75N
Vertical range: 0-6500m (Since original data is written in the vertical sigma-coordinate, please specify vertical levels for your analysis)
Time range: January 1st, 1993 to 31st, December, 2022 (We can provide near realtime data upon request)
Temporal resolution: Daily or Monthly
Available variables: Sea surface height, Zonal velocity, Meridional velocity, potential temperature, salinity, and heat flux at sea surface
Data format: NetCDF or Fortran 4-byte binary
After receiving your request, we will provide a URL of ftp server for downloading your data.
