Drawing on valuable images and videos acquired through surveys and observations, JAMSTEC has designed Ocean STEAM Educational Materials for actual classroom use, in line with Government Curriculum Guidelines.

Teachers and Students Can Easily Download Content at Any Time

JAMSTEC’s Ocean STEAM Educational Materials can be downloaded free of charge by anyone, anywhere, at any time. The materials have also been incorporated into the Platform for Learning Innovation Japan (PLIJ).

Ocean STEAM Educational Materials Are Used in Places of Learning, in Coordination with Local Education Authorities

Ocean STEAM Educational Materials comprise content that teachers can use independently, as well as content that enables students to enhance their ocean literacy.

TYPES OF MATERIALS

Five types of educational materials are available:
curriculum schedules, lesson slides, instruction books, texts, and worksheets.

  • For Teachers
    Curriculum Schedules

    These are example curriculum schedules for use by teachers. The curriculum can be freely arranged depending on the age of the students, and on the educational activities of the school in question.

  • For Teachers
    Lesson Slides

    These lesson slides are for teachers to use in their classes. They contain questions and tasks for further investigation that are not contained in textbooks.

  • For Teachers
    Instruction Books

    These are instructions for teachers to follow during their classes. They provide guidance on lesson flows, links to the curriculum, and teaching suggestions and advice.

  • For Students
    Textbooks

    These textbooks are for students to use during classes, or when studying at home.

  • For Students
    Work Sheets

    These work sheets are for students to use during classes, or when studying at home.

  • #01Sea Creatures and Changing Environments
    2023.08.30
    For upper-grade elementary school students

    Divided into six different themes, these Ocean STEAM Educational Materials are designed to provide students with an understanding of “Sea Creatures and Changing Environments.” Teachers can choose between investigating all six themes, or focusing on just one or some of the themes. However, even when looking at just a single theme, we recommend that teachers distribute all available textbooks and work sheets in order to encourage encourage students to be actively involved in learning.

PROJECT LOGO

Inspired by ocean waves, the logo also resembles the kanji character for “person.” This duality expresses how the Ocean STEAM platform intends to nurture “persons” for the future.

  • Blue | Science

    Blue conveys the openness and depth of the oceans and the skies. It represents the inquiring minds and careful observations that are born of the limitless possibilities of science.

  • Purple|Technology

    Purple conveys a sense of innovation and creativity. It represents the innovative ideas and problem-solving skills that are born of technological progress and future-oriented approaches.

  • Orange|Engineering

    Orange conveys a sense of dynamism and energy. It represents the innovative solutions and practical skills that are born of the creativity and energy of engineering.

  • Pink|Arts

    Pink conveys depth of emotion and affection. It represents the creative perspectives and empathy born of artistic sensibility and expressiveness.

  • Green|Mathematics

    Green conveys growth and progress. It represents the pattern recognition and analytical skills born of the logical approaches and abstract comprehension of mathematics.
