This web site has shown the following sentences at its top page.
In the summer 2010, this site will be improved how to distribute the data in order to co-work with the coming SEDIS Phase III (Planning note by CDEX [April, 2010] and DMCG meeting slide [July, 2010] for details). See RFP of IODP-MI for details of SEDIS Phase III.
On August 31, 2010, CDEX completed implementing the plan: (1) Persistent snapshot of J-CORES' Bulk Exported data file set was taken for each hole of Expeditions 314, 315, 316 and 319 (314-C0001A, B, C, D, C0002A, C0003A, C0004B, C0006B, 315-C0001E, F, G, H, I, C0002B, C, D, 316-C0004C, D, C0006C, D, E, F, C0007A, B, C, D, C0008A, B, C, 319-C0009A and C0010A; The snapshots were removed later). (2) The list of extra numerical data (Extra Scalar
) were shown with explanation for each parameter (The list was removed later). (3) Numerical data of final forms of well logging and downhole measurements were loaded onto J-CORES and are being included by Bulk Exported files.
As announced previously, some data errors had been found but could not be corrected. As a part of them, such data of moisture and density (MAD) measurements for Expeditions 902, 315, 316 and 322 were marked on August 31, 2010. Bulk Exported CSV files contain the descriptions of the measurement errors in MAD comment
column.
In addition to the data corrections by August 13, 2010, another series of data correction was done for the moisture and density (MAD) measurements for Expeditions 315, 316, 319 and 322 on August 17, 2010. The corrected data were made available on August 19, 2010.
As CDEX announced, some sorts of data were corrected for Expeditions 901, 902, 314, 315, 316, 903, 319, 322, 904 and 905 and became available on August 13, 2010. Some zip files of X-ray CT scanned images for some sections still contain old wrong coronal image files; J-CORES Bulk Exported data files contain new corrected coronal images. Some data cannot be corrected; they will be marked by some ways soon.
At the beginning of August, 2010, CDEX announced the followings.
Dear IODP Scientists,
In a review of MSCL-W data in preparation for this year’s IODP expeditions, we have found that there were several errors discovered in some of the data collections with some of the following instruments over previous expeditions: XCT images, MAD measurements, MSCL-W, SQUID, IC-Anion, and UV-NH4. These Expeditions include parts of IODP Exp 315, 316, 319, and 322. Detailed information particular to each expedition is being sent to the respective science parties of the relevant expeditions.
We have completed a comprehensive review of all the data sets collected aboard D/V Chikyu, and have certified that there have been no other errors. We sincerely apologize for the trouble and inconvenience this causes for scientists using our data, and realize that these kinds of errors, while unfortunate, should have been caught before. In order to prevent the reoccurrence of these kinds of mistakes, the Center for Deep Earth Exploration (CDEX), along with Marine Works Japan (MWJ), are reviewing and reforming the calibration and data collection procedures for each instrument aboard D/V Chikyu and revisiting operator training for ALL MWJ technicians aboard D/V Chikyu.
Corrected data (with the correct calibration figures) will be updated and uploaded to the JCORES public website (http://sio7.jamstec.go.jp/) by Friday, 13 August 2010. We again apologize for the trouble this will cause all scientists using our data, and realize that it is our duty to provide the most accurate and reliable data to the science community.
Data of Expeditions 314, 315 and 316 cannot be accessed while the data correction.
Similar errors were found also for Expeditions 901, 902, 903, 904 and 905.
On June 21, 2010, data index pages were reorganized. This web site was renamed from `Chikyu Laboratory Data Center' to `SIO7 Data Center'.
In Week of May 31, 2010, around 150 parameters were renamed in the Extra scalar column group in the J-CORES Bulk Exported data files. At the same time, the columns were re-categorized into bulk-something.csv
files.
After May 12, 2010, the J-CORES Bulk Exported data files are by using J-CORES Version 1.6, which implements IODP Depth Scale Terminologies (Version 1.1).
On April 1, 2010, a planning note was opened how this site will be improved its data distribution in order to co-work with the coming SEDIS Phase III.
In March and April, 2010, a few minor updates were applied to the distributing data files originated from the J-CORES database.
After March 19, 2010, J-CORES Bulk Exported data file set does not include bulk.csv
or complete.zip
. At the same time, the metadata were improved to have more information for SEDIS Phase I. After April 12, 2010, double colon characters ::
delimit the title and series names in the column headers of the Extra scalar column group in the J-CORES Bulk Exported data files. The delimiter was a hyphen-minus character -
before. After April 16, 2010, some bulk-something.csv
files contain their targeting discrete sample information. Files bulk-something.csv
are generated by picking some kinds of data from bulk.csv
which is Bulk Exported from the J-CORES database. These files contained measurement results with their depths only before.
In March, 2010, this site started distributing the scientific reports of JAMSTEC (i.e. non-IODP) expeditions by D/V Chikyu.
Subject: Unit of MSCL-W Magnetic susceptibility
Description: In October, 2009 during Expedition 322 it was reported by one of the onboard scientists that the unit of MSCL-W Magnetic susceptibility given by J-CORES was suspicious. After the investigation we found that the unit (×0.001 SI) being used was incorrect and the wrong unit had been posted for the bulk export files. We also confirmed that the problem was only the unit but it had no effect on MSCL-W Magnetic susceptibility measurement.
Status: The problem was fixed by changing the unit to the write one (×0.00001 SI). The correction was applied all the bulk export files shown in Public J-CORES Data center on November 6, 2009 Japan Standard Time.
