This is a new theme that was added in fiscal 2017. The goal of this theme is to acquire and analyze the data and samples that combine the genetic models and exploration technologies for seabed mineral resources. Doing so will enable us to narrow down potential waters from the vast sea area in a highly efficient and low-cost manner. Specifically, under the leadership of private industry, we aim to develop new methodologies and technical systems to narrow potential waters down to several square kilometers and explore mineral deposits at a depth of less than 2,000 meters with a depth shallower than 30 meters under the seabed. The first-year field experiment was successfully performed.
