Scientific research on formation processes of ocean resources
The goal of this theme is to establish survey methods and determine the collection of optimum data based on geochemical evidence, such as revealing the formation processes and accumulation mechanism of seabed resources, including seafloor hydrothermal deposits, cobalt-rich crusts, and REY-rich mud.
Specifically, data collected using advanced survey methods and equipment will be analyzed in an integrated manner to develop a genetic model of mineral deposits. Genetic models for several sites will be developed so that the foregoing methods can be applied to various other sites; these genetic models will also be integrated to help private companies efficiently narrow down potential waters.
