2nd Steering Committee Meeting

On August 4, 2022, the second meeting of the Arctic Research Vessel Steering Committee was held. (The first meeting was held on December 14, 2021.)

This committee was established to facilitate the construction and operation of Arctic research vessels through the concerted efforts of JAMSTEC, as well as to enhance cooperation between Japan and overseas. The committee consists of external members who are experts in various fields and internal JAMSTEC members (see figure below).

The committee meets about twice a year to report on the progress of the vessel's construction and operational preparations, and to obtain advice for its broad utilization.

Based on the comments from the committee members at the first meeting, we discussed and exchanged opinions on the topics of "Arctic research strategy with the utilization of the Arctic research vessel" and "PR measures for the Arctic research vessel.
