RV Shinsei Maru
Small but Versatile Coastal Research Platform
Built to succeed the academic research vessel Tansei Maru, the Shinsei Maru efficiently and effectively supports research by Tohoku Ecosystem-Associated Marines Sciences (TEAMS). TEAMS monitors large-scale natural and ecosystem changes caused by the Tohoku-oki earthquake to clarify the mechanisms of natural ecosystem restoration. changes in ecosystems to clarify the mechanisms involved in natural ecosystem restoration. Shinsei Maru is equipped with a wide variety of state-of-the-art observation equipment and research facilities, and is capable of conducting comprehensive research such as atmospheric observations, including marine environmental observations, seafloor bathymetric surveys, and marine meteorological observations.
Main equipment
There are 3 labs (#1~#3), with lab #2 divided into dry, semi-dry and wet sections. In addition, there are separate rooms for the CTD water sampler, gravimeter, chemical storage, and sample storage.

A-Frame Crane
In addition to equipment such as organism collection nets and sediment sampling, HYPER-DOLPHIN can be launched and retrieved and collect seafloor samples.
2Laboratories
Lab #1 is located behind the wheelhouse and is outfitted with meteorological observation and underwater acoustic equipment. Lab #2 is a large room with dry, semi-dry and wet sections. This is where CTD observation operations, sample processing and analyses are conducted. Lab #3 is a smaller one and suitable for darkroom operations.
