R/V MIRAI

"Smog"

Smog (photo-1)
Due to the forest fire in Indonesia, it is still hazy. In the evening, however, we could see the light of sunset (photo-2).

Observations:

Continuous observations have been done. However, since we again entered not-permitted area for observation within EEZ of some countries, all oceanic observations have been stopped from the evening.

Remarks:

Tomorrow, we could enter into the Indian Ocean. However, according to the current satellite images and some analyses, MJO-convections have already been observed in the western Indian Ocean. Although it may be difficult to obtain the features of the preconditioning, we expect that we could get precise data of MJO-convection in the Indian Ocean.
