R/V MIRAI

"2nd day of the IOP"

Fine
Weak easterly prevailed a whole day.

Observations:

According to the satellite based cloud images, it becomes very active in the central (60E - 70E) Indian Ocean. We expect the eastward propagation of this cloud activity within a few days to one week.
Rotation of radiosonde, CTD, and turbulent flux measurement has been conducted as well as other continuous observations. In addition, "snow white" precise water vapor radiosonde attached with ozone sensor was launched in the daytime (photos 4-5). Photos 1-3 were taken at the water sampling.

Remarks:

Since right now we are conducting 24-hour continuous observation, it is necessary for researchers to acclimate themselves to his/her working time quickly.
According to the analysis of radiosonde observation (not shown here), CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) shows the diurnal cycle and slightly increased during the past one week. It is worth to comparing this result with cloud activity found in the central Indian Ocean.
