R/V MIRAI

"midnight watch"

Fine, later rain.

Observations:

Routine measurements (radiosonde, CTD, etc.) have been done.
In the afternoon, cumulus convections quickly developed (photo-1). However, it seems that cloud clusters found near the Maldives in the satellite cloud images decayed.

Remarks:

In the midnight, it is usual that only the person who is in charge of observation is watching the monitor for Doppler radar observation. As we found developing echos near the MIRAI (Fig. 1), many guys were in the Doppler radar room to speculate whether we will conduct the videosonde observation or not in the coming a couple of hours (photo-2).
